A two-tone, peppermint-scented cookie sliced from a checkerboard block of pink and plain dough.
Method
- 1
Make the dough and divide it in half. Mix red food coloring into one half. Wrap each half and freeze 20 minutes.
- 2
Divide each half into 8 pieces and roll each into an 8-inch rope; flatten on 4 sides to form a square rope.
- 3
Arrange 4 ropes side by side alternating colors, top with 4 more alternating colors, and repeat to build an 8 x 2 x 2-inch checkerboard block. Wrap and freeze until firm, about 1 hour.
- 4
Slice the block 1/4-inch thick and cut a heart shape from each slice with a 2-inch cutter. Bake as directed. Makes 30.
